Barcelona has again been unlucky despite its win over Benfica by 2-0 in Champions League coz its central defender and captain Carles Puyol got himself injured again. Perhaps, the injury is so deep that he will miss the field for at least two months or even more coz his left elbow has badly been injured. The 34 year old got his elbow injured when he was trying a header and landed uncomfortably and start screaming with unbearable pain, he was then lifted on a stretcher off to the a hospital. The year 2012 has brought on some nightmare injuries for star midfielder, it was his first match after his hamstring problem and now he is again out for another period. Barca’s midfield is already in an adversity coz its another player: Gerard Pique, is also recovering from his foot injury. Now, Barca’s next match is against its arch rival Real Madrid on Saturday where Barco will be without its skipper too.
Puyol has gone back to the Barcelona after Hospital confirmed his elbow’s dislocation. Barcelona releases its statement confirming his injury and his probable absent from the field for at least eight weeks. Its statement reads as, “The club captain will undergo conservative treatment and is expected to be out for about eight weeks.” Barcelona sporting director and president both met him in the hospital and now he is out of the hospital but needs treatment for next two months. This injury is also a terrifying for Barcelona’s coach Tito Vilanova, who is now without two of his most important midfielders. On the other side, Puyol is quite confident to return the field even early; he enthusiastically tweeted to his fans and said,
“We are back in Barcelona.”
“I want to thank everyone who looked after me in Portugal. I’ll soon be back to my best again! Thank you for all your messages – a big hug to all of you.”
Despite lacking two big names, Vilanova is optimistic to have a squad where young talent will replace the injured players. He said, “The injuries mean we will have to play players in positions that aren’t their own, but we’ll use our youth players, that’s why we have them.” Since there are no chances of Puyol to return before December and in between, Barcelona has to play many Primera Division alongwith champion leagues remaining group G matches. This could be the time for youth players to show their best performance to get noticed – finally.
