It can never be better than winning a quarterfinal match with as good as 3-0 margin for any team. Real Madrid revealed its strength in the Champions League where it comprehensively defeated their rival Galatasaray in the first leg of the quarterfinals. Moreover, their three goals margin virtually made Fatih Terim club out of the tournament, coz if they want to reach into the semis, they would have to defeat Madrid by more than three goals in aggregate in the second leg match at Istanbul next Tuesday. Actually, Madrid took control of the game right in the beginning when their ace striker Ronaldo scored first goal of the game in the ninth minute, he was then followed by fellow Karim Benzema twenty minutes later and surged their lead to 2-0. Second half brought another goal for La Liga club when Gonzalo Higuain came on for Benzema in the 65th minute and scored another goal via header. A three goals lead is generally considered as virtually undefeatable; hence Madrid can sit and relax and play second leg match with a decisive first match lead, though coach Jose Mourinho has refused to accept that second leg match would be easy for them; perhaps he spread a massage among players that their return leg would be a tougher one.
He talked to media after the match and spoke about this match and their coming few clashes, he said, “The team has played a good match, it was serious and balanced, they were aware that this competition can be decided on mere details. Real Madrid has played a great match and deserved to win. If we score a goal, they will have to score five. But in football I have seen so many incredible things, nothing can surprise me,” said the Portuguese coach, who is hoping to win the Champions League with a third club after his earlier successes with Porto and Inter Milan.
“Istanbul is a very difficult place to play, they will fight very hard against us. The story of football is full of miracles and I will try and convince my players that it’s not all over yet.”
Similarly, Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim also confronted with media post match and said, “Of course 3-0 is a bad result. The referee did not dare give a couple of penalties against us. We had our chances too, but we failed to convert them… We will return to Istanbul and try to do our utmost for our fans there.”
