Contemporary soccer has so widened that it now covers every part of the globe and it is now not possible for any player to keep attached with the side he has been playing since his youth days even if we are talking about Real Madrid but it always gives pleasure if he gets an opportunity to return back to the side later in his professional career and Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, who used to be the product of Real youth academy, is the one who is getting the opportunity to serve his parent side after a long eight-year’s spell for Barcelona side. Since he is now a 28-year-old player, his remaining professional life is not that long yet Real has offered him a five year contract which is like a dream comes true like situation for the goalie. The deal is said to be sealed at some €6 million which is almost €2 million more than last figure offered by the Bernabeu that was rejected by Espanyol president Joan Collet. Although, deal could only take place now, but it had been in discussion since last few weeks, the major point of difference was of course salary which is finalized after long negotiations. Talking about the deal, Espanyol president said, “We have reached an agreement with all parties. Kiko Casilla will be transferred to Real Madrid. The fee is €6m.
“Kiko told us that this is a unique opportunity for him and that this was his intention. He asked us to try to reach an agreement and this morning we have done so. This is a loss for us and we didn’t expect it earlier this summer. We wish him the best of luck. The doors of this club will always be open. “
If we look at Casilla’s form playing for Espanyol, he has had 37 league games in 2014-15 with a descent 13 clean sheets to his name and still having three years left in his contract; he too expressed his excitement going back to Real, he said, “I never thought I would go back. I am fortunate to go back. I’m very happy to have signed for Real Madrid. This is a new opportunity in my career and this train only comes once. I want to enjoy it. I need to take advantage and do the best I can.”
Likewise, Rafael Benítez side also informed about the deal via a site post that states, “Real Madrid C. F. and R. C. D. Espanyol have agreed to the transfer of Kiko Casilla, subject to a necessary medical examination. The player will be tied to the club for the next five seasons.”
