Rio Ferdinand prepares for a retirement after no extension

December 27, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

Rio Ferdinand

In his affords to rebuild United squad, new manager David Moyes needs to take some tough decisions and letting some senior players go is one of them. Rio Ferdinand, the 35-year-old legendry defender has long been linked with a possible retirement rumors, but he had some kind of hope that manager would offer him an extension as he is in the last six months of current contract with The Blues. But fortunately or unfortunately he became the first victim of Moyes attempt to comeback in the league with a bang. Since, 50-year-old Scottish manager is heavily being linked with Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, and Phil Jones, Ferdinand could soon be a history for Manchester United while everyone would remember his significant achievements playing for both United and English national soccer team. Last summer transfer window could not be a successful one for former Everton manager as it should be, but this time, he has geared up his shoes and keyed on some specific key players for his army, which means, there is no possibility Rio can be offered an extension considering his age and growing status in the team.

Moyes has always been a man addicted to young players hence he usually tries to make a combination covering both experience of legendry players with enthusiasm of young ones and his dream seems to be converting into a reality thanks to their comeback in last few matches in EPL otherwise they were much below in the leaderboard at once. Moyes is counting on young players at the moment and availability of players like Tom Cleverley is a surprised gift for him. He explained it as, “Tom Cleverley gets underestimated a lot. He’s a good player if you look at his stats, his passing, his running, what he gives the team. I think he’s a very good player. I think the whole team needed to step up, not just Tom, but I think we’re finding that more and more of them are beginning to perform much better.

“Tom is someone we like a lot. He’s great on the training ground and about the place, so we want to give him as much chance as we possibly can. I think sometimes people haven’t seen what he can do and maybe they look to see what he can’t do. He certainly works really hard for the team, but he needs to score more goals.”

Though, he never underestimated importance of former greats for his dream team but still he believes young players can only be the building blocks for United’s future.
