This League season has been interesting and anticipating ever since it started thanks to the extraordinary performances by last season’s underdogs, including Arsenal and Liverpool. Both these teams have been the front runner for the title race this season and thanks to their consistent performance they are still among the top three. But slowly and gradually Manchester City, the runner up of last season, is chasing them, perhaps once this high profile team was nowhere on the top, but they are now on the third spot on the leaderboard; therefore they are equally dangerous for any team thinking to claim League silverware this season. Today, Liverpool is going to clash with Manchester City in their den where they have been enjoying a 100% success status in this season and Anfield based club is confident they can surprise them with their rejuvenated army of world class players. City has played eight games on home ground in the current season and could manage to overcome visitors on all occasions and scored 35 goals as well. Rodgers understands the importance of this game and how it can boost mortal status of entire team if they could conquer City on their home turf.
He described it as, “We know it is a tough place to go. This season, Manchester City have won every one of their games at home but we’ve won every one at home bar one. They obviously have confidence at home and they score goals but they concede goals. You normally lose it at some stage of the season, it will depend on a team going there and having the bravery to play and get that bit of luck when you need it.
“In the two games against City last season, we were the better side and we made mistakes that cost us and we ended up drawing the two games. They will know as well we are a good side and arrive with confidence high. We understand it will be a really tough game but we are looking forward to it.”
Though, he admits they cannot compete them on paper coz City is having some of the finest soccer talents in the world, yet they will try their best to restrict perhaps overcome them in front of their home crowd. He added, “Man City’s squad is one which has been built to win every trophy in the world, not just the Premier League. We understand the size of the task but our team at the moment has shown to be the best team over 17 games.
“You have to respect the opponent and understand they have some outstanding players but recognise the talents of your own group. You will probably learn more about the squad. I know what the team can do but we have a number of injuries, however, we will go into the game with the same charisma and aggression to work.”
