The current Serie A spell of Italian club Roma is not going smoothly; perhaps they are still missing a win after playing five matches and laying on the eight spot on the leaderboard. Their recent surprising defeat to Cagliari by 4-2 on Friday stunned the think tanks of the club; the loss required an urgent step and righty so club director held a crucial meeting and took a bold step by firing manager Zdenek Zeman all of a sudden. Zeman spent just seven months at Stadio Olimpico, and more interestingly, he was one of the favorite managers when he joined Roma last season coz he had already coached them in early nineties. This time, it looks Roma players could not match up his attacking style of play which even made Roma defense more vulnerable. This is exactly what happened with him when he was hired by the club in 1990s. Now, there seems to be no hope for him to coach any other big soccer club citing his bad track record off late. Anyways, performance is what matters in soccer today, and he is not the first one to face such dismissal, many big clubs recently fired their top officials including manager when they failed to provide the results.
Sixty five year old was living with pressure from some time now for obvious reasons, and when he could not win a match even on the home ground, it was the end of his tenure at Stadio Olimpico. Roma issued a statement informing about his sacking, it reads as, “AS Roma wishes to announce that Mr Zdenek Zeman has been relieved of his duties as first-team coach. The club thanks Mr Zeman and his collaborators for the professionalism and dedication shown in carrying out the job.”
Besides, Roma chief executive Italo Zanzi also explained their side of view behind his sacking. He said, “Our decision today is based on confidence and consistency. Aurelio Andreazzoli is a true football professional and has a strong track record with AS Roma. He knows the value of our players and has their respect. We believe in our team and will continue to fight for every point this season.”
He also added that they have complete trust over their players, management, and strategies they follow, it is about a leadership that is missing somewhere, and here they need a competent soccer pro who could provide a needed morale boost among players and present them as a team.
