Real Madrid could not be among the probable winners in La Liga, but on European front, they are getting better and better with every other match thanks to their army of world class players and Cristiano Ronaldo is undoubtedly one of them. Ronaldo has indeed been the follower of his arch rival Barcelona’s Messi, but since this season could not be as great for Argentine, Ronaldo is enjoying the dominance over world soccer. After winning the FIFA’s player of the year award, he attended another feat – by scoring maximum number of goals in one calendar year in the Champions League. Yes, his dual against Bayern Munich in the CL semifinal was the sixteen overpassing AC Milan’s striker Jose Altafini’s fourteen goals record he made back in 1962-63. Though, later, in 2011-12, Lionel Messi equaled his tally but Ronaldo became the first one in over five decades to score sixteen goals in one European league and counting.
Ronaldo’s highly awaited fifteenth goal was his team’s third over German rivals and Portuguese showed his delight via a website statement where he said, “I was looking for it and I knew I needed one goal but I was not going to be mad if it didn’t happen. It was a great ball from Bale. The whole team helped me. I’m really happy to break the Champions League record but what I want is to win it and we’re very excited.”
Talking about their chances to coup European title, the in-form forward added, “A final is always difficult. I don’t care if it’s Mourinho or another coach. It will be in my country and I want to win the Champions League. We have been losing in the semis for a long time, three or four years, but the most important thing is that now we are in a deserved final and we have our feet on the ground.”
Ronaldo has been one of the most successful Real star in this season despite the fact that Santiago Bernabéu side is also having world’s priciest player in the squad and many tried to create a cold war among them – like they did to Messi when Neymar joined the La Liga champions, but Ronaldo never let his ego comes in between his gameplay, hence Bale and other teammates continuously kept taking him as a respectable senior. He added, “We came here knowing we had fallen three years in the semifinals. We were very focused. We played one of those games that will be remembered. We did it, we are in the final. But then, obviously, it is a pity not to be able to play the final. With time, I hope I will not remember this part. I hope we will win and then forget about this part.”
