Ronaldo shines in WC qualifier against Sweden

November 17, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

Cristiano Ronaldo is known to be a silent player who speaks with his performance on the ground, but when he speaks; it means a lot. After his extension dispute with Real Madrid this is probably the first time he is outspoken in the media defending his national side’s chances to be in the Brazil world cup. Portugal defeated Sweden with just one goal in last playoff that brought them closer to their world cup qualification thanks to Ronaldo who again proved his worth for the national side. Looking at the final score, no one can predict how many lost opportunities were there which could have won them with a comprehensive lead, but anyway, a win is always a win and Ronaldo became the only performer for Portugal national soccer team. Though, he never overstates his performance in any match but looking at the importance of their world cup participation, he exaggeratedly praised his form and what he could do for the national team.

Actually, he has been a most talked about player off late not because what he is doing on the field, but for what he is missing outside of the field. Like his nomination for this year’s fifa ballon d’or award and how world soccer’s governing body is biased towards his arch rival Barca’s Messi. Anyway, he is satisfied with his performance like he has always been and openly accepted their few mistakes in the match with Sweden and said, “I scored a vital goal which gave us the victory. We could have scored more but in the end it wasn’t to be. We would have liked to have taken a bigger margin with us from the game, and we could have done that.

“We have to be happy with the result but on Tuesday we have a new battle. We’ll go onto the pitch with the smallest of advantages, but this scoreline, even though it’s minimal, is better than a draw. We will go to Sweden and give our all, because no player wants to miss out on the World Cup in Brazil. It was an important goal that gave us the win. We could have scored one or two more but the advantage raises our spirits for the away match. But it’s not done yet – it’s still 50-50.”

Next leg of their Sweden tour will decide if Portugal can qualify for the upcoming world cup or not, but in any case he will always a shining stone for both his national side and his Spanish Club Real Madrid.
