What would be the probable end of an episode where a star footballer waited for months for his contract renewal? A transfer? Yes, this is what seems to be happening with Real Madrid starlet Cristiano Ronaldo who now wants to come back to his old club Manchester United. Reportedly, he has been in conversation with José Mourinho over his new contract to extend his tenure at Santiago Bernabéu, but when nothing happened even after eleven months of conversation, he is forced to decide something unexpected. This is not the first time he finds himself in this kind of situation, coz earlier too he faced similar circumstances when he was with United and wanted a contract renewal for a hefty fee. This time, United’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson also wants him to come back to Old Trafford; moreover, Ronaldo has also accepted of saying to his old teammates about his wish to come back.
Behind the scene, news is United and Madrid are already in talks about his summer transfer, and if rumors are to be believed, the asked price for this high profile transfer would be around £122m which is one of the highest in recent times. If Madrid initiates his transfer, it will not only gain 122 million in loan transfer fees, but it would also save future fees payable to Ronaldo should he continues playing with them, which is expected to be in tune of £150m. Age wise too, 27 year old Ronaldo is not a worthy investment for The Whites. So, if everything goes well, Rolando can soon be at his ‘home’ though in the capacity of a Madrid player on loan.
Among all this, one question is being asked by everyone who is a close follower of United financial balance sheet, that does United has funds to afford such a high priced transfer? The answer is yes, if its owners – the Glazer family –decide to pour some more investment to buy a star player of their choice. Actually, last summer, United floated their 10% at £150m in New York Stock Exchange, and a part of it is still available with the club, and a shortfall can be covered by its owners of they decide so. Now, it depends upon Rolando how he takes his future on, or if he really wants to make a shift or it is just a new trick to give more time for a probable backend deal with Madrid itself!
