There are many players in soccer who always applaud their associations with one or more clubs, but again, there are some players who always admire their finest performing teams they have scored the most of their significant goals against. Manchester United’s 28-year-old forward Wayne Rooney is one such player who has a wonderful track record until now, but one team he recalls the most is definitely Arsenal coz this is the same side he has been most disheartening for. Everyone remembers how Rooney’s last minute finisher against ‘The Invincible’ ended their 49 matches winning streak back in 2004, and if this is not the only noticeable performance, United striker scored his 100th and 150th against Gunners as well. How can one forget his smashing hat-trick when United crushed Wenger side with 8-2 two years ago? This is not the end of a nightmare for Arsenal coz he is the only one to fire ten goals against them – more than any other team Rooney has scored against, and if we look at last 11 showdowns between United and Arsenal, Red Devils has won on nine occasions, one match ended draw, and Gunners won only one.
This so called undesired ‘relation’ between Rooney and Holloway club is now remembered by United star and how hopeful he is looking at their good run this season. A the moment, Arsenal is topping the league tally, but Rooney still wants to wait until March to see if they can really take the crown with them, coz there have been many cases in the past they ruled the tally during initial phase but thrown out of the top spots by January or February. He shared his experiences with this side and said, “It is the perfect fixture for us all. It is a massive game. We’re obviously capable of beating them, we’ve done it many times in the past.
“It is a bit weird how Arsenal do crop up so many times in my career. I have always enjoyed my games against them. I am sure they must be fed up with me at times! They are a great club. It is great to play against them and score, especially when you are scoring winning goals, because they are such big games. It is a great feeling. That first goal does seem like a long time ago. It was obviously a special goal for me. It was my first goal for Everton.
“And a couple of years later it was a great feeling to break their record of 49 games unbeaten. It was a special moment.”
