While racism has ever been a biggest problem no one could ever manage to control, this menace has crossed European border off late with continuous reports of incidents in Russia as well. Like Asia or South America, there used to be far less number of cases in this part of the world as far skin color discrimination is concerned but last few months carry a defining change in this assumption. Since next FIFA world cup is going to be hosted by Russia, it is evident they would try their best to control this peril as soon as possible. One of leading official in Russian football association has recently called racism as the deadliest virus that they need to eliminate before FIFA event could start else they can never stop themselves to be in line with other soccer regions where taunting others over their color, cast, and breed is a day to day affair. Anatoly Vorobyov, general secretary at Russian Football Union, said recently they are far away of doing anything concrete in this direction. If we rely on the report published by two anti-discrimination groups, Fare and the Sova Center, there have been more than 200 case of discrimination in last two seasons itself in Russia which is the biggest count ever in the history.
Vorobyov talked about this in his last Associated Press interview where he said, “We have enough disciplinary measures which are laid out in our regulations. On the other hand, perhaps they need to be used more strictly. It’s necessary that the professional football league and the clubs work more actively to that end.”
Moreover FIFA president Blatter has also warned Russian Football Association to face strict measures if situation does not improve in their State before the world cup, however, expert are calling his warning as a routine call since FIFA could never do anything materialistic in Europe where racial abuses have crossed all barriers. What 78-year-old Governing body head said off this, is, “I am aware of the report – sure we are concerned, definitely. Racism is one of the items which is on my agenda on the very top, every day. If it does not stop then there must be some sanctions. We have started a big education programme with them. They are aware of the situation.”
Amid all this, Russian football association is not willing accept racial abuse cases are growing in their region and they still affirm they can manage it far better than ‘others’ where this has already been on alarming level.
