Jonjo Shelvey, the Liverpool midfielder, has recently played as a second-half substitute for England and made his senior debut in an England’s world cup qualifier match against San Marino on Friday night. England thrashed San Marino by 5-0 in that match and Shelvey thinks he is lucky for the team. It would rather be a lucky day for him, coz he was not in the starting lineup, but, since Frank Lampard was injured, he got his dream call to play for England’s national team. Being a 20 years old starlet, he has been named Under-21 English team to play in European Championship against Serbia. During his one match showdown, he proved his competency to play an international level match and highly impressed Roy Hodgson. England has to play its next match against Poland on Tuesday. By then, Steven Gerrard will replace Shelvey as per defined English lineup. Though, Shelvey has made his first international appearance, yet he has to wait for more time for his second appearance. For now, he is expected to be returned to Under-21 team, but he has already proven his capability for any future call.
He takes this opportunity as a bonus for himself. Cheering his international debut for England, he said, “Obviously, it’s what dreams are made of. My dad’s always said that hopefully one day I’ll play for England and it’s come true now. I started the week a little bit nervously, not in a training sense but in and around the hotel. But, as the week went on, I got more and more confident. Hopefully, he’s got me in his plans for future call-ups.”
He also added, “I don’t know what’s happening now, whether I’m going to be going back to the U21s or staying.”
Being a part of England’s’ under -21 team, he will have to return back to play next match on Tuesday in European Championship. Earlier, he was banned in the first leg to play at Carrow Road, but on Tuesday he can play for English under -21 team. Anyways, whatever happened is like a dream comes true for him; players wait for years to play for their national team, but Shelvey got his chance all in a surprise. No matter if he will again play for senior England team anywhere in near future, he has done his job for now and showed his in-filed potentials for England. Looks like Roy Hodgson also noticed him!
