Argentinean great Lionel Messi finally reached to a milestone of scoring a maximum number of goals in a calendar year by breaking Germany’s legendry Gerd Mueller's record of 85 goals set up around forty years ago. Messi scored 86th goal on Sunday during a match between his club Barcelona and Real Betis in Spanish league wherein Barca defeated Real Betis by 2-0. More interestingly, he still has to play three more matches this year, so everybody is keeping his fingers crossed to see what would be the next target for record aspirants. Since, Messi hardy missed any match due to his injury or for any other reasons; he got more matches exposure to beat the German record. Messi is Doubtful for Barca’s Sunday’s La Liga Match
Today, when injuries are routine news in the soccer world, some players clearly stand apart of recurring injuries. Lionel Messi, the Argentinian and Barcelona star football has ever been known for his fitness and rolling match records! Recently, in a match between Barcelona and Benfica, he somehow got injured in an attempt to score his record leveling 85th goal of the year. He got his knee badly injured, and was taken off the field on a stretcher. Initially, it looked to be a major injury that could lay him out of the field for a longer term, but fortunately, his injury did not come out to be a serious one, and expectedly, he will only miss one match for that injury. The top AP Global Soccer ranking’s player of the week is Lionel Messi, an expected name in the soccer fraternity, and his club Barcelona is ranked as number 1 soccer club according to The Associated Press’ panel of 20 global soccer journalists. Messi earned 183 points out of 200 maximum; he shifted last week’s winner Paris Saint-Germain’s striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to second spot this week; he had 124 points this week. Besides, Messi and Ibrahimovic, another Barcelona player Andres Iniesta got 119 points placing him on the third spot for the week. Barca Makes History in La Liga
Barcelona has been participating in La Liga for last 113 years, but for the first time; it makes a thrilling start where it remained unbeaten for its first ten played matches. Especially, it is still unbeaten and no one knows how long this record will stretch. Saturday was the history day for Barca when it defeated courageous Celta Vigo by 3-1 and remained its status unbeaten. With this win, Barca is leading the leaderboard with its 28 points in 10 played matches, perhaps its position is getting strong as a day passes by in Spanish league. A new salutation is in the making to be added after Messi’s brand name and that is ‘A father.’ Yes, the soccer giant is all set to become a father anytime from now since his girlfriend has already been admitted to a nearby hospital to give birth to their first child. While Barcelona players are busy in training for their next match against Celta Vigo, Lionel Messi is looking for an excuse to miss the training session to be at the hospital sharing his life’s most rememberable moments with his girlfriend. His girlfriend Roccuzzo has already admitted to USP Dexeus in early hours of Friday and Messi will soon be joining her. At the moment, he is at the training facility near Camp Nou and expecting that he will be allowed to go to her girlfriend.
