Champions League is now in the finals stage hence no qualifier is willing to miss any game for any shoddy reason and last Bayern Munich vs. Benfica first leg quarterfinal meeting was one such game where Germen leader had to face a tough resistance from their Portuguese opponents. Although, Allianz Arena side won the game by a narrow 1-0 margin on the board, thanks to second-minute goal by Chile international Arturo Vidal, but it was more a defeat to the Bayern manager Pep Guardiola who was very optimistic for a dominating win before the game. Now, after going through the depth in Estádio da Luz side, 45-year-old Spanish does not want to take any risk hence tiding his shoe for the second leg showdown in Lisbon next week. If we look at this game, though Bayern were more attacking but they were missing target consistently, or you can call it a better defense from the visitors that defused around fifteen attempts by the hosts. Moreover, it is more a failure of Rui Vitória whose men could … [Read more...]
Fernando Torres blames his ousted for quarterfinal loss to Barcelona
If we look at the current Champions League’s quarterfinal lineup, almost every side is eager to score an edge in the first leg game itself and if they miss, they express their serious confidence to cover it in the second leg. Last night’s Atletico Madrid vs. Barcelona first leg quarterfinal at Camp Nou was one such game where though Barcelona delivered brilliantly but Atletico Madrid as well did not disappoint and matched the defenders almost in every department, however, they missed a few opportunities that cost them the game eventually. Moreover, bigger disappointment for them was ousted of star forward Fernando Torres who was found going through back of Sergio Busquets on the halfway line and referee Felix Brych booked him for his second Yellow Card and sent him out. Visitors were now a ten-men squad and did everything they could to defend their early one goal lead but Luis Suarez made their joy short-lived when he netted two brilliant goals in the second half to take his side on … [Read more...]
Messi shines in Barcelona’s Champions League win over Arsenal
0 - 2 The long awaited Arsenal vs Barcelona Champions League tie ended with expected result when Spanish giant dominated the hosts right from the beginning and won the game with a 2-0 margin. Expectedly, Messi delivered his best and netted both the goals while hosts looked helpless in front of firing forward line of Camp Nou side. Looking at the final score everyone would get a feeling that Arsenal were nowhere close to Barcelona players but actually visitors had to do lots of hard work to score two goals that too happened in the second half. Actually, Gunners defense was in its best form last night as they almost defy every shot of the best forward line, although, Barcelona enjoyed the ball possession more than the hosts. Chelsea has surely become more promising ever since their former Jose Mourinho has joined them, and this visible change continues on their European tour as well. He revealed the cult words he said to his team after … [Read more...]
Messi hat-trick and Barca defeated Ajax
Barcelona showed a thrilling performance in Champions League and defeated Ajax by 4-0 thanks to another brilliant hat trick by Messi. The whole match was an one-sided affair though Barca could have added one or two more goals if they capitalized every given opportunity. First half of the game was not so exaggerated as both the teams were playing with almost equal possession of the ball while second half brought La Liga champions on the top and again Messi became their star performer scoring another hat trick. This win brought them on the top of Group G with 13 points – a clear three points lead from Celtic. Despite a comprehensive victory, coach Gerardo Martino is not completely satisfied the way his men dominated the game; he somehow also changed the style of play by incorporating long passes while Spanish club is famous for controlling the ball by short passes. Even a large section of fans is also not fully convinced with the new adaptation and that is why Martino seems to be … [Read more...]
