There has been a long running debate whether technology should be used beyond its limitations in sports or not, however, in many sports, human interference has been reduced significantly via help of a sophisticated technology, but there are some sports where technology is still in its initial phase and soccer is one of them. Malky Mackay loves technology but wants to set its limits
Goal line technology has become a reality in both league and international soccer events, and ever since Hawkeye system has been approved to be used in Premier League season, everyone is excited to see its first use in one of the highly admired soccer leagues in the world. In fact, experts are now living in their comfortable zones coz they will not have to see some of the biggest mankind mistakes in a soccer a match like Roy Carroll incident in 2005 or a ‘ghost goal’ by Reading against Watford back in 2008. Hawk-Eye to enter Dutch’s domestic league
Despite Platini’s repeated denials to use any goal line technology within UEFA competitions, Dutch is going to be the first European country to install one of the approved goal line technologies into their domestic league matches. Though, the use is only on trial basis that too not on all the matches being played in Dutch cup competitions, however, all major matches including relegation fixtures would have a tight eye of technology to find out if ball has actually crossed the line or not. Reportedly, Dutch has shortlisted Hawk-Eye as their preferred technology provider which uses seven high resolution cameras spread across both goal posts; these cameras can take the highest frame per second images to check ball’s exact location at any point of time. Premier league clubs to adopt Goal Line technology
When FIFA finalized a German firm’s GoalControl technology as the final one to be used in coming Confederation Cup last week, counting started for its use in the English Premier League as well. To discuss its practicality, EPL clubs have now decided to hold a meet this week to decide the use this revolutionizing technology add-on to soccer, particularly in the EPL. Since it would be a mega deal to sign up with a GLT provider, English FA has decided to run a joint tendering process in association with EPL clubs to find the ultimate provider whose technology would finally be installed across all 21 stadiums: 20 EPL sites and one Wembley. FIFA approves fourth goal-line technology
In a bid to make coming World Cup full of technology rich, FIFA is working overnight to empanel as many Goal-line providers as it can so that they could have a variety of options when it comes to choosing one of the best goal line technologies. Until now, there were three providers who were licensed to offer their systems for FIFA matches including coming world cup and now FIFA has added one more provider under its licensed list of goal line technology providers. The newest goal-line licensee is called as GoalControl 4D system which is a German based provider and works on the basis of 14 high speed cameras to capture every frame of the moment and determines if ball has crossed the line or not.
