Terry refuses a handshake with FA chairman Bernstein

April 20, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

John Terry

Former English captain John Terry is the one figure who got maximum publicity from his act of racial abuse against QPR defender Anton Ferdinand last year. He had to forgo his captaincy along with four matches’ suspension. Though, he was later cleared by Westminster Magistrates Court, but English FA did not forgive him and continued his four matches’ domestic ban. Terry, who retired from international soccer last September, still remembers the trauma he had to face coz of an unjustified ban imposed by English FA. Now, when Bernstein met with Terry along with other Chelsea players, he clearly snubbed his handshake with him without saying anything. This is something which got media attention and brings him in the news for his brave act of retaliation against a notable soccer personality. He later confirmed the reason for refusing handshake with the chairman by saying; he was the same man who played an important role in removing him from captainship. He gave an interview to a new source and clarified his action by saying, “Listen, it’s a difficult one for me. Obviously he was the one who spoke about me in the court case and said things. I don’t want to talk on air. It’s probably a subject that we should maybe just avoid. “

On the other side, FA chairman also refuses to have knowledge about Terry’s snub during the group meet, however he also confirmed to have a bitter relation with the former captain coz of the racial proceedings initiated against him. He said, “I didn’t notice anything. My relationships with everyone here are really fantastic. I didn’t notice a thing and I think we should talk about more positive things than that sort of nonsense. I don’t know,” he said. “I’m not really terribly concerned. I have other things to think about. In my last three months, I have other priorities.”

So, it looks like Bernstein, intentionally or unintentionally, gave Terry an invisible wound which is not going to heal quickly, perhaps it looks nowhere to cure in the near future as well. Terry’s career ended all of a sudden with just one incident of racial abuse and if Bernstein would have wanted he could have still been the English captain and continuing his international career, but he was destined to retire last September. This is not the first time we have seen a cold war in the making between two notables, coz many others alike incidents have taken place earlier in soccer world. So, life continues here irrespective of what anything thinks about anyone.
