The matter of white and black is not new in soccer; perhaps it is as old as the game itself is, and when we talk about one of most racism regions for color difference, its South Africa to be named first. We have seen this nation suffered so much coz of its white biased culture and the same State is the host of FIFA’s 2018 world cup which is the biggest soccer event involving entire world to be precise. When the biggest event of a highly emotional game comes to another sentimental State, as far color of players is concerned, it doubts everyone whether event can smoothly be completed or not. Take example of a recent Champions league match between Manchester City and Russian club CSKA Moscow at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, though City won the match by 2-1 comfortably, but its midfielder Yaya Toure faced the heat of what the ground reality in Russia is. He was perhaps the prime target of monkey chant echoed throughout the stadium during the game, in fact, he was so disappointed with the response from African country that he issued an advisory to all black players to boycott 2018 world up until Russian Government promise to treat them equally with anyone else.
As far European governing body is concerned, UEFA disciplinary committee started investigation immediately to find the reason and also warned the local authorities to help them in the matter. Toure said while calling all the dark players that “If we are not confident coming to the World Cup in Russia, we don’t come. I don’t know why it happens in football. I don’t know why you don’t get something like this in rugby or handball or any other sport.
“If UEFA don’t take action it will continue. A couple of months ago my friend played with Milan and he had the same problem. I hope they do something – ban the club or the stadium for two years. The club may say they have to educate the fans but it’s not enough. Too much is too much. We have to stop it now.”
On the other side, CSKA is denying the claimed and stated there was no chant specifically targeted towards the midfielder, it said via a statement that “Having carefully studied the video of the game, we found no racist insults from the fans of CSKA. On many occasions fans booed and whistled to put pressure on rival players but regardless of race. In particular this happened with Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko. Why the Ivorian midfielder took it as being directed at him is not clear.”
