Former Spanish footballer Txiki Begiristain is all set to replace Manchester City’s sporting director Brian Marwood. The high profile appointment was long in waiting, and now it’s clear in public domain that Begiristain will begin his new job at Man City. Brian Marwood will now take over soccer academic and serve his service to train new soccer talent for Man City. Begiristain has played for many clubs in his career including Spain; perhaps he holds as many as 22 caps for Spain along with Deportivo, Barcelona, and Real Sociedad. In his current job too he will report to his old time associate Ferran Soriano, who is City’s current chief and parted with Begiristain for Barcelona. After his appointment, Begiristain issued a statement via club’s website and said, “I am very pleased indeed to have been offered such an exciting opportunity. The progress and on-field achievements at Manchester City are plain for all to see and I am honoured to have been asked to contribute to its future success. I am very much looking forward to working with Brian Marwood, Roberto Mancini and Ferran Soriano in continuing to build a football team and philosophy which will serve Manchester City well in the near and long term future.”
Having seven years of Barcelona experience, 48 years old Begiristain has enough skills to provide good players to Man City as `he did for Barcelona when he helped club to hire players like Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o and Dani Alves. Though, he is being appointed as sporting director which is much different from his earlier duty for Barcelona where served as Technical Director, yet his reputation in soccer arena is good enough to name him best candidate for this job at Man City. On the other hand, Brian Marwood’s departure is caused by his recent players sign up deals which were not appreciated by City’s think tank. Anyhow, his new job has enough to reclaim his lost reputation by preparing good and solid foundation by identifying fresh soccer superstars. New session of City Football Academy will begin in 2013-14, and then; he will take over the charge of his new job.
His new responsibilities include recruitment, development, and training of upto 400 new soccer payers at Manchester and various global training facilities sponsored by Man City. So, both Txiki Begiristain and Brian Marwood are now taken up their new jobs and time will tell who does what in terms of performance.
