The final rounds of 2014 world cup qualifiers have begun, and US national soccer team will open its league of final qualifiers on Feb. 6 at San Pedro Sula against Honduras as a part of its ten matches qualifying round. However, their first home match in the final round will be played against Costa Rica on March 22 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City right at 8 p.m. MT. Thereafter; their third match will be played few days later, i.e., on March 26 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. This would be their first meet with CONCACAF champions since they defeated them in a historic match last season. The time table looks to be in favor of US national coz there is a gap of few days in between these matches; hence they can practice harder to get refresh for the next match. Notably, US have ever been qualifying for the FIFA world cup since last six tournaments and this time too they are positive to make their promising entry to the mega soccer event to be hosted by Brazil.
Citing the excitement for the coming qualifying round, U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, said, “We are really excited to play our first home qualifying match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Winning games at home in World Cup qualifying is crucial, and we really are expecting the fans in Colorado to bring us a huge home-field advantage.”
The final world cup qualifying round has a round robin league format wherein each team has to play against each other team, and besides Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, and US, other teams to compete are Jamaica and Panama. Total number of games in this qualifying round is ten; hence there are more than enough chances to prove the brilliance by every competing team. Out of the top ranking teams, first three teams will automatically be qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil while forth place holder will have to play another two game playoff against the winner of Oceania region qualifiers. Moreover, the beginning of year brings another milestone for the US soccer whereby they will be celebrating 100 years of US soccer throughout the year. Hence, this year seems to carry power pack soccer actions for North American soccer fans, and hopefully; they will advance to their seventh consecutive world cup in a style.
