Vilanova to stay with Barca despite his health concerns

April 27, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

Tito Vilanova

Barcelona head coach Tito Vilanova has been subjected to countless speculations about whether he would be returned healthy or whether he will continue with the club coz his injury was showing no sign of improvement in the last one year. He went through a surgery for his throat cancer and then an extensive chemotherapy session back in the New York, he returned back staying 10 weeks there and joined the club just recently. Barcelona playing experience has been with little ups and downs during his absenteeism when his assistants Jordi Roura and Aureli Altimira took the charge as first Barca coaches. Overall, Barca won eight matches out of thirteen played without their head coach in last one year and this performance shows a little scope for him to resign and concentrate on his health, but the rumor has been rubbished by Vilanova when he said he will stay with Barca in the next season too.

Tito joined The Catalan side back in June 2012 when he replaced his boss Pep Guardiola and he has since been an important decision maker in Barcelona’s winning march. However, his absence also brought some bitter loses for his club like throwing out of the Copa del Rey by Real Madrid in February. Anyways, at the moment, Barca is leading the La Liga leaderboard with a good thirteen points lead from its rival Real Madrid and having six matches to go. The lead looks enough for making them another winner of Spanish title which would be the twenty second for the Catalan side. However, their position in the Champions League is also worth mentioning where they are at the verge of being thrown out in the semi-final stage.

Taking about his current contract with Barcelona, Vilanova recently said that “I feel with desire and strength I want to continue I feel strong and, health permitting, I’m looking forward to continuing in the job. If ever I get two days off, I don’t know what to do. This job is not a burden to me and the doctors told me that the best thing I could do was to work.”

Anyways, his contract is going to expire in 2014 and if he shows the signs of recovery as he is doing now, there is no question of raising an alarm for his replacement. Moreover, his tuning with team players is also excellent, so we can safely assume he is not going anywhere.
