Barcelona FC could be a ruling champion of contemporary soccer world, but there is always another side of shining stars which is quite personal and isolated. Barca’s head coach Tito Vilanova, who has been surfing from parotid gland cancer, is yet again to undergo a surgery on his parotid gland to treat his throat cancer via chemotherapy for a period of six weeks approx. Last year too; 44 year old has had the same surgery on his parotid gland, but his illness relapsed later and he required undergoing the same treatment again. Since, his treatment may go over few weeks; everyone was expecting his temporary replacement which is refused by Barca’s president. In a press conference held just recently, Barcelona’s coach and president put a dot on all these speculations to hire a replacement. Sports director Zubizarreta said, “Tito is the coach, and continues to be so.” He further added, “Jordi Roura will take charge against Valladolid. Tito I am sure will be watching us on television and wanting us to win.”
Since, Vilanova will remain the coach of Barcelona during his treatment, he has promised his fans to balance both his work and treatment and vowed to come back soon. His current surgery will require him three to four days in the hospital, and during most of these four days; he can manage all his routine official tasks – as per the medical officers who are attending him. Barcelona has also issued a statement on its website that reads as, “In monitoring the process of his parotid gland, an extension of the pathology was detected, requiring surgical treatment on Thursday.
“An extension of the pathology has been detected in parotid gland. The manager requires surgery which he will undergo this Thursday. He is expected to remain in hospital for three to four days.
“After the surgery, Francesc Vilanova will undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment for approximately six weeks. During this time, and depending on how well he recovers, Vilanova’s treatment may be compatible with his work life.
“Keeping in line with the patient’s wishes, we urge respect and privacy during this process.”
Being one of the most versatile soccer personalities, his health is a major concern not only with his club but among his rivals too. Real Madrid is among the first who roared its wishes for his health and early recovery. Many ex-Barcelona players have also tweeted in support of his successful treatment.
