It is not very common in soccer to see a legendry manager praising a particular player openly, especially if the same player has been criticized for his fading performances off late. It actually does not matter how you play or what your record has been in recent times, coz if your manager is backing you, no one can raise a finger on you. It holds true for 22-year-old Welshman Aaron Ramsey who has been an eye candy for Arsenal few years ago, but off late, he was widely condemned by club loyalists for various reasons. But the good news is, Arsene Wenger has come forward in his support and said, he deserves a huge credit from his side for whatever he has done for the league club. Obviously, an open support means a confirmed place in the team, but it still depends upon how club fans take him ignoring his recent performances. Wenger also acknowledged his own failure to recognize the finest soccer talents he already has in his squad while trying to sign more and more players in the last transfer window. Ramsey’s energetic participation in training session and his recent show against Fenerbahce and Fulham proved his critics wrong, which is why Wenger had to come forward in his support.
Talking about Wales national teammate, Wenger said, “Ramsey is a young player and year ago, he was highly under scrutiny,” Wenger told reporters after his side’s 3-1 win at Craven Cottage on Saturday. People had major doubts, but I think he deserves huge credit for having moved forward the way he did. We deserve some as well because we continued to develop him and believe in him and all the players we have here. We have good quality at this club, do not forget that.
“During the transfer period, people are so much focused on who is coming in that they forget how good our players are. Somebody told me there was an interesting article somewhere in a newspaper. Apparently it said: ‘We don’t bring players in, but at the other hand, the English players don’t get the chance to play in the Premier League.’
“If you look at our team today, you had Jenkinson who gets a chance, you get Walcott who has started with us, you have Ramsey, you have Wilshere, you have Gibbs – all players who get a chance with us. You should give us some credit for that sometimes.”
