Wigan Athletic Football Club made a history in itself by entering into the FA cup final for the first time in their cup history of 81 years by defeating Championship side Millwall at Wembley. The victory is even special for them looking at the 2-0 margin they managed to lead with. Wigan was very much in control during the whole game and scored one goal before and after the lunch session taking their team to a historic final. First goal was fired by Maloney at 25th minute while second one was netted by McManaman at 78th minute. It was rather a bad day for Millwall coz they could never match the speed and stamina shown by Wigan’s men. However, the match is also remembered for crowd violence during the last moments of the match by Millwall fans which became uncontrollable by security personnel. Many fans were shown fighting with each other including crying pictures of a girl who was pleading for everyone to stop. However, many fans were also trying to stop all the nonsense happening on the field, but it was more a retaliation from fans for not winning such an important game.
Later, Millwall boss Kenny Jackett apologized for his fans violence; he issued his statement where he said, “I’m very, very sorry if that’s the case. We are trying to progress. We want to try very hard to keep the momentum of the club going forward. (It) will hold us back as we are trying to find the equation to keep the momentum going forward on the pitch. That will hold us back if it happens repeatedly.
“We have worked very hard. The chief executive and the board of directors have worked very, very hard to do everything possible to make us trouble free. We have had many, many high-profile games where things have gone very well.
“Our work in the community and the work of our players in the community is considerable. We are doing everything possible to continue this and to help the profile of the club in the south London community.”
In fact, the ferocity became so wild that even police had to use some kind of force to control the culprits. Later, they arrested some fans and still trying to find out when and who started all this. Anyways, it was still the greatest day for Wigan who can now concentrate on their final rather flickering by the violence shown by crowd.
