World Cup protests begin in Brazil

January 26, 2014 by 888Scoreonline

So, world cup is finally arriving on the soil of Brazil where protestors are ready to fulfill their earlier threats to make it one of the most disturbing soccer events in the history. Though, security agencies in this South American country have tied their shoes with an added strength to control a possible widespread protest, yet thousands of dissenting civilians, mostly students, gathered around Sao Paulo to hint how far they can go if Government continue to organize an expensive sport’s event at the cost of their day to day necessities. Reportedly, the protestors who came to the rally were carried flags, banners, and abusing chants against the government along with continuous slogans against anti-national decisions of the State. Those, who have seen the extent these protestors can go during the Confederation Cup, know that this could be an alarming bell for everyone, especially those tourists who are planning to visit Brazil to watch their favorite team. Even many countries have issued an advisory to their citizens and asked them to take extra care if they are planning to follow their national team.

Though, a larger section of the media reported that latest protest was more or less peaceful, but some of them also claimed that there were some minor attacks from the mob on empty police vehicles though no causality has until been reported. It was the first protest for world cup and as the deadline will come nearer, this is expected to get intensified and who knows they suppress their Confederation Cup figure. To bring all the dissenting civilians together, a Facebook page has been created named Anonymous Rio protest group which is asking the entire country to come together and oppose this multi billions soccer event.

When asked about the basic demands some of the protestors replied, “If we have no rights, there will be no Cup. By rights we mean the people’s right to decent public services. We are against the millions and millions of dollars being spent for the Cup. It is money that should be invested in better health and education services and better transportation and housing.”

This is just the sample of what could be the real situation once world cup is inaugurated over here. When approached to football association, they refused to comment over the issue and said this is just a minor incident hence should not be exaggerated by media. Let’s see how they prove media wrong in upcoming weeks!
