This English season is expected to bring joy for Manchester United who has faced severe criticism for not able to sustain their class post Alex regime and thanks to the newly appointed manager José Mourinho, team players are also excited to begin a new era under the Portuguese. Even captain Wayne Rooney is now showing a completely different form to what he had in the last season thanks to his brilliant two second-half goals over Galatasaray in Gothenbur that helped them shred away 2-1 half-time deficit. Apart from Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is another one who is showing a brilliant form in his debut season for the Red Devils – how can we forget his acrobatic effort in the fourth minute to score his first club goal at Gothenburg? Actually, it was not the first time Swedish striker demonstrated his acrobatic skills as we have seen him doing so back in 2012, when he used to play for Sweden, against England at Stockholm in November 2012. Anyways, captain is well excited to have a rejuvenated list of players under him this year backed up by another great mentor of the game who has already said to target the EPL title this season.
Talking about the Ibrahimovic and why he is going to play a key role this year, 30-year-old ManU skipper said, “It was a great goal from him. It was good for the team. He’s a fantastic player, he showed what he is capable of doing, and I am sure there will be many more moments like that from him. I didn’t play thankfully. It’s exactly what we need. We have seen him do special things throughout his career and I am sure he will do that for us this season.
“He is a great signing for us, a lot of experience. He’s been a successful player wherever he has been and hopefully he will be for us as well. He’s a nice fella, a normal guy. He gets on well with everyone. He is good to have around the dressing room and certainly will be good to have on the pitch with the aura he brings with him.”
Adding about himself and what manager has in his mind about his position in the field, former Everton striker said, “It’s always tough in your first game back to get back into it. The plan was always to stay on into the second half. The important thing is minutes. Of course you want to win, but the important thing is getting fit for the start of the season so that was the plan. The lads who came off at half-time haven’t been back as long as we have so that’s why they came off.”
